Police said Trooper Jon MacKinnon stopped at the CVS around 9 a.m. to grab some bottled water when he observed a man trying to rob the pharmacy with a box cutter.
"I came down the center aisle and noticed a man behind the counter with his hood up," MacKinnon said. "I thought that didn't look right. And it was at that time that [an employee] said he had a knife."
When MacKinnon pulled his firearm, he said the suspect jumped over the counter and ran out of the store. MacKinnon said he chased him into the parking lot to a vehicle where he then pepper-sprayed the suspect.
"I never saw the knife so I switched to the pepper spray," MacKinnon recalled at the scene about an hour after the incident
