If you have ever taken a karate class or have sent your kids there, what you may not know is the meaning of the word martial arts. it is a very popular word, but here is its true meaning. The word "martial arts " literally means " The Arts of Mars", a Roman god of war.
in my research of ancient Rome, Mars was a god who watched over the soldiers and the farmers (crops). During war, Mars went to with the soldiers, he was their war god, and the Roman army used used his name in battle. Today , sports like MMA( Mixed Martial arts), UFC ( Ultimate Fighting Chamiponship ), Tap Out and others use the name " Mixed Martial Arts".
This is NOT martial arts at all, it is full contact sports like boxing, wrestling, or other type sports. The true warriors of Mars used body amour, spears, swords, , tactics, bow and arrows, other weapons and, combatives ( killing techniques ), and even chariots in war.

Based on this history, no Asian arts ( Judo, Karate, Tae Won do, Aikido, or nay other art can be considered "Martial Arts". The only other full contact sport during Rome gladiatorial games was called ' Pancratium' taken after the Greek PanKrato or ' Pankration'. This truth WAS designed to reveal history. if Martisl arts would be portrayed like ancient times, law enforcement of today would be the closest to it. Duty belts, guns, tasers, shields rifles. shot guns, etc are all signs of the arts of war.
